About

I’ve always loved photography but never had the equipment to take any decent shots… until now! I can remember when I was little I was given a camera that was probably older than me, to take photos with. I didn’t understand much about photos, even opening the back with the film exposed! Still, I managed with it until I got a 35mm camera off my parents when my one died on me.

It wasn’t until a trip to New York in 2000 that I finally bought my own camera. A Minolta, with 3 different views on it. Still a basic compact camera, but it had a zoom, automatic wind on and it was much easier to put the film in! I still have this (with a film half used at present!), but it’s sitting in the drawer gathering dust.

Digital Times

I bought my first digital camera at Christmas 1999. It was when digital cameras had finally come down in price, this one was half price at £150. A Fujifilm Finepix 1.3MP. It got a fair bit of use out of it, but there was no zoom and it was a nightmare trying to download photos of it, needing a serial cable and appropriate software installed. I then set my sights on a Nikon Coolpix, after seeing the results of a 5MP camera and how well A4 shots could be printed out. So I saved up and bought myself the Coolpix 7600 in January 2006. However it wasn’t until a year later that I really started to read the manual and understand the various settings, and started to really try to get the best out of it. However, it wasn’t long before I got frustrated at the lack of control. No shutter speed control, no aperture control, and the optical zoom was okay, but nothing fantastic.

The DSLR Era

In December 2007 I decided to move up a stage and bought myself the Canon EOS 400D. By this point I’d learnt a fair bit about what a DSLR could do for me, and it was what I wanted. Being fairly small handed there was no way I could look at the professional range of 40D and up – far too big for me! But the 400D is perfect. I’ve got a few lenses too, namely the 50mm f/1.8, 100mm f/2.8 Macro and the 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS. Plus I have a loan of a Sigma 18-50mm from David, my other half (who currently has a Canon EOS 40D).

So I’m currently on a major learning curve. I’m still getting to grips with the various functions on my camera, and I must admit I’m probably a bit lazy in changing lenses when necessary. I just like to take photos, hopefully semi good photos at time :)

This site is designed to show off my better photos plus allow me to talk more about photography, and where I’ve taken photos. All of the photos that make the public cut can be found in my Flickr Gallery.
